Ubisoft attempted to create an interesting character that feels like a real person

The next installment in Ubisoft's long-standing Assassin's Creed series of action adventure video games seems very well positioned to take on the competition in the very crowded month of October.

Ubisoft has been making all the right moves with promoting the game, and the brief gameplay videos showed an amazing-looking Paris. The game takes place during the tumultuous events of the French Revolution, and players will take on the role of Arno Dorian, an assassin coming from an old lineage.

Scriptwriter Travis Stout, the man who wrote the story for the game's campaign, revealed more details regarding Assassin's Creed Unity's protagonist on Ubisoft's blog, in order to give players a better sense of his role in the events of the game.

First of all, he addressed the particular spelling of Arno Victor Dorian's first name, saying that it was not misspelled, but that it was an older French/Germanic variation, less common than Arnaud.

"It comes back to Arno's family history. His family is a very old one and they've been Assassins for a very long time so we wanted to give him a slightly more antiquated name. Also, the phonetic spelling makes it easier to pronounce," Stout explained.

"He is a very driven young man. He is haunted by mistakes in his past or perceived mistakes, that he feels he must atone for. He is very devoted to the Assassin Order as an ideal but, at the same time, he is not as impressed with the weight of the long mystical tradition and ancient rhetoric as some of the other Assassins. He likes to think for himself and make his own decisions. He isn't the type of person who will believe something just because someone tells it to him," Stout further revealed.

He also informed that Arno is a very well educated young man, raised in a noble household, with access to tutors and books, and thus is very well-read. He also has a tendency to use humor to deflect when he is emotionally vulnerable, and is in the habit of quoting classics whenever the opportunity arises.

Stoud said that he tried really hard to make him a well-developed and interesting character that felt like a real person, the complete opposite of the usual grizzled tough guys spouting one-liners that gamers are used to seeing in action games and movies.

Assassin's Creed Unity is scheduled to come out on October 28, for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
