The PS4 version wasn't dumbed down to equal Xbox One edition

Ubisoft has issued a new statement about the performance figures of Assassin's Creed Unity through which it confirms that it has not lowered the quality of a certain version in order to ensure that both the PS4 and Xbox One editions look and feel the same.

Assassin's Creed Unity is eagerly awaited by millions of franchise fans, as Ubisoft and its Montreal studio have promised plenty of ambitious improvements to the series, from better combat to smoother stealth and easy exploration.

Unfortunately for those who were looking for a high-quality experience, the actual performance figures aren't that great, as Ubisoft revealed earlier today that Unity runs at a 900p resolution and 30fps framerate.

Unity performance wasn't lowered to ensure parity

The official reasoning was that Ubisoft didn't want to cause a debate over which platform had the best-performing version of the game between the PS4 and Xbox One, but many fans quickly jumped to the conclusion that the PS4 performance was lowered to ensure it matched that of the Xbox One.

Ubisoft now offers an official explanation, via GameInformer, emphasizing that the initial statement shouldn't be misinterpreted. Unity's performance hasn't been artificially lowered to ensure parity between the two consoles, so fans have nothing to worry about.

"To set the record straight, we did not lower the specs for Assassin’s Creed Unity to account for any one system over the other. Assassin’s Creed Unity has been engineered from the ground up for next-generation consoles. Over the past four years, we have created Assassin’s Creed Unity to attain the tremendous level of quality we have now achieved on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC," Ubisoft explains.

Underpowered consoles weren't an issue, apparently

Ubisoft also mentions that the underpowered CPUs in both the PS4 and Xbox One didn't pose big issues for the studio, as its team was able to realize its ambitions for the upcoming game.

"It’s a process of building up toward our goals, not scaling down, and we’re proud to say that we have reached those goals on all SKUs. At no point did we decide to reduce the ambitions of any SKU. All benefited from the full dedication of all of our available optimization resources to help them reach the level of quality we have today with the core Assassin’s Creed Unity experience."

Unity launches in November alongside Assassin's Creed Rogue, a new title that's coming to the old PS3 and Xbox 360 platforms.
