Instead of getting just the 6.7GB patch, the game redownloads every file necessary to run on the Xbox One

The fourth major update for Assassin's Creed Unity has launched on the Xbox One, but instead of delivering "just" 6.7GB of new files, the patch causes the game to start redownloading all the files required by the title, meaning users of the console will have to transfer a whopping 40GB of data.

Assassin's Creed Unity launched last month and promised to overhaul the whole recipe of the series so far, bringing in revised combat and stealth, as well as smoother freerunning and much more impressive visuals that used the power of the PC, PS4, and Xbox One.

Unfortunately for the franchise's millions of fans, the end result wasn't so impressive, as plenty of different issues and bugs plagued the game at launch and continue to weigh down the experience for plenty of users.

Update 4 causes new problems on Xbox One

The latest patch 4 for Unity started rolling out a few hours ago and was supposed to fix many issues with the open world action adventure experience. On the Xbox One, however, it seems to be introducing more problems.

Apparently, when Xbox One users are prompted to download the 6.7GB update, they're then transferred to a new window where the whole game starts getting downloaded. As such, instead of transferring just 6.7GB of files, they have to get 40GB of data.

Ubisoft is aware of the issue

Ubisoft notes on its official blog that it's aware of the issue and confirms that it's working with Microsoft to solve the problem, but right now, it can't say for sure when the actual glitch will be remedied.

"This issue isn’t causing any other problems and once the download is completed players will have the most-up-to-date and fully patched version of Assassin’s Creed Unity. We are working with Microsoft on a solution to reduce the total download to the intended size so that you can get back into the game faster, but as of now we have no ETA on when this will be resolved."

As of yet, there's just one workaround to avoid the large transfer, as those who have the disc version of the game just uninstall and then reinstall the title, which will then be patched using just the 6.7GB of data from patch 4. Those who have the digital edition of the game, however, are out of luck and will still have to endure the 40GB download, at least until a solution is released by Ubisoft and Microsoft.
