The leaked image shows an almost 1:1 version of 18th century Paris

The map of 18th century Paris, as envisioned by Ubisoft for the upcoming Assassin's Creed Unity, has been leaked online, and it appears to be the real thing.

The map has been uploaded by Reddit user Skelaa, and so far it seems to be the legitimate map of Paris from AC: Unity. It also seems ridiculously big, when compared to previous entries in the franchise.

"To give you an idea of size: just look at the 'Île de la Cité' in the middle, all the streets, almost a little village," the Reddit user notes.

The map will seem even bigger in-game, since developer and publisher Ubisoft has already teased that we'll be able to enter around a quarter of all buildings we come across, which might translate into some pretty interesting gameplay opportunities, where we'll scout ahead and mark our escape options, then enact our plan and navigate the city according to the moment-to-moment reality of the game world.

The image seems to be a photograph of a large cloth map, part of a gift that Ubisoft reportedly sent to some employees and collaborators, in a bundle that also includes a themed guillotine together with a thank you note.

The map seems to be similar in size to the actual map of 18th century Paris, and it appears that the developers were not joking around when they said that the upcoming adventure would take place on a massive scale.

To get a better idea of its scope, included in the gallery below is a side-by-side comparison of the cloth map leaked on the Internet and an actual vintage map of Paris.

It certainly seems that Ubisoft has gone through a great deal of effort in order to faithfully recreate the environment of its upcoming Assassin's Creed adventure.

When the developers mentioned that the game would provide a 1:1 recreation of Paris and its monuments, nobody took that claim at face value, but if the map turns out to be a representation of the actual in-game setting, it will be conducive to the fact that the statement was not just hyperbole meant to build excitement for the game.

For now, we can't be sure that we are looking at the real Assassin's Creed Unity map. However, if we are, then the upcoming action adventure title will be indeed as massive as Ubisoft touted it.

Assassin's Creed Unity is currently scheduled to come out on October 28, for the PC, PlayStation 4 computer entertainment system from Sony, and Xbox One console from Microsoft.
