Publisher Ubisoft is encouraging players of Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood to log into the multiplayer component of their games in order to reach 25 million online kills, the set mark which will unlock a new map for the multiplayer side of the game, called “Rome by Night.”

It seems that the official tracking for the event has started just before Christmas and, despite the fact that gaming seems to slow down during the actual holidays, those playing Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood have managed to reach close to 12 million online kills when this article was written, meaning that the “Rome by Night” game map might actually be playable by those who own the game before the New Year is upon us.

The event is a very good way of persuading more players to spend time in the multiplayer component of the game, which appears in Brotherhoods for the first time in the series, and offers some very interesting twists on how player versus players engagement usually happens.

The game is all about the player mimicking a computer character for as long as possible, tracking a target while avoiding being detected by his prey or by those who are, in turn, hunting him.

The experience is tense and engaging but might prove a bit too slow for those who are usually engaged in quick matches in popular first-person shooters like Call of Duty or Halo: Reach.

Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood has been a big success for Ubisoft and the company is eager to extend its popularity as long as possible.

A new game in the series will be delivered at some point during 2011, but the publisher has not said if it keeps exploring the Renaissance period or moves forward in history.
