Recent games have introduced too many gameplay mechanics

Patrice Desilets, the developer who came up with the idea for Assassin’s Creed, believes that the series would benefit from more the improvisational elements that were part of the first title in the series.

The developer tells Edge that gamers had the chance to explore the world at their pace and would find little situations that they could turn into personal stories.

He states, “When you get close to Damascus, there’s a guy on a stage and he has 35 soldiers in front of him. If you kill him, they all chase you. I played that and it became my little story.”

The problem with improvisation was that many players simply bypassed the surprising setups, which forced the Ubisoft team to change the structure of the game to include missions.

At the moment the Assassin’s Creed team is working on Black Flag, which is expected to launch later during the year.
