Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag, the open world adventure and stealth title from developer and publisher Ubisoft, is the number one video game in the United Kingdom for the week that ended on November 2, during its first week on the market.

The game takes players back to the times when piracy was a constant presence in the Caribbean and allows them to explore the major cities of the region in order to take out high quality targets while also engaging in complex sea battles.

The fact that Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag took number one is surprising given the fact that it launched at the same time as Battlefield 4, the first-person shooter from developer DICE and publisher Electronic Arts.

The game is in second place for the week, according to data from UKIE, but it will probably be more interesting to players in the long term because of its 64-gamer-powered multiplayer modes.

FIFA 14, the football simulation from EA Sports that launched in September, is still in third place and seems poised to remain as significant in the long run as last year’s version, remaining relevant deep into 2014.

Grand Theft Auto V, the open world action title from Rockstar, has dropped down two positions to fourth this week, but it is already one of the bestselling titles of the year.

Batman: Arkham Origins, the title from Warner Bros. that brings the Dark Knight back to his early career, has dropped five positions to sit in fifth.

Football Manager 2014 has also made its debut on the United Kingdom market and has managed to arrive in sixth place, one position ahead of WWE 2K14 from 2K Sports, which introduces a wide variety of new wrestling moves.

Minecraft for the Xbox 360 is in eight, with the new Skylanders hot on its heels, while the UK top ten is closed down by Pokemon Y, which dropped four places from sixth.
