Steve Masters, the lead designer working on Assassin’s Creed III at Ubisoft, confirms that the new game in the series will be the last one to feature Desmond Miles as the main character and promises that the team will deliver all the answers that the fanbase has been asking for.

The developer tells the Official Xbox Magazine that, “we’re trying to make it a little bit more direct with the storyline but at the same time there are still going to be plenty of little mysterious bits for you to dig into, especially in the side stuff.”

Masters acknowledges that the Ubisoft development team has taken its time to advance the story and understands the frustration that has been created among the players who followed it from the beginning.

The lead designer adds, “A lot of the misdirection and the way we’ve been meandering a little bit has been kind of frustrating as a player and for the audience, so we wanted to make sure there was going to be more substance to get your teeth into.”

Desmond Miles has been part of the Assassin’s Creed series from the first game, but gamers failed to connect with him and became more interested in the adventures of Altair and, mostly, Ezio.

The third core game in the franchise makes the move to the Revolutionary War period in America and introduces a new main character called Connor, who is half American Indian and who will meet some of the most important historical figures of the period.

Assassin’s Creed III will be launched in North America on October 30 and one day later in Europe and gamers will be able to play on the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3.

Ubisoft is also preparing a version of the Wii U, which will be available on the day the new Nintendo device launches and PC gamers will get the game in late November.
