Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag is set to launch one year after the third full game in the series and many fans believe that Ubisoft is overworking the franchise and will fail to keep up the level of quality.

Jean Guesdon, the creative director working on the new title, says that despite the annual rhythm of releases, the franchise will remain relevant in the long term and will continue to impress fans.

The developer tells The Official Xbox Magazine that, “I think we have proven that this franchise is relevant, and that it has a long way to go. Our job as developers of this new opus is to surprise players and bringing fresh, different ideas, while at the same time ensuring that what makes AC such a stand-out franchise remains intact.”

He adds, “With the scale and scope of the world we are building, the completely new setting, the new gameplay mechanics, and our new characters (both our hero and his supporting cast), we are definitely on track to get the job done and avoid fatigue altogether.”

Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag is designed to take the naval battle mechanics that players have already experienced and expand on them to create a fully-fledged pirate-themed experience.

Players will also be able to explore the land of the Caribbean and the already familiar conspiracy element will also be present.

The main character is Edward Kenway, a British-born pirate and a member of the Assassin Order, who is also the grandfather of Connor from Assassin’s Creed 3.

Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag is set to launch on October 29 of this year in the United States and three days later in Europe and will be available on the PC, the Wii U from Nintendo, the Xbox 360 from Microsoft and the PlayStation 3 from Sony.
