Ubisoft and Sony have confirmed that the Freedom Cry downloadable expansion for Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag will be released as a standalone experience on the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3 consoles later this month.

Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag appeared in November of last year across the PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One platforms, delivering a great and quite lengthy action adventure experience.

Since then, developer Ubisoft Montreal has released a special story-based add-on called Freedom Cry, which charts the adventures of Adewale, the first mate of Black Flag protagonist Edward Kenway.

Now, Ubisoft has revealed on the PS blog that Freedom Cry will get a standalone release on the PS3 and PS4 this month.

"In Freedom Cry, you assume the role of Adéwalé, a former slave rescued by pirates and trained in the ways of the assassin," the studio said about the add-on. "After finding himself stranded in what is now known as Haiti, Adéwalé joins the battle for freedom in support of a slave rebellion… but how will he balance his newfound cause against his obligations to the Assassin Order?"

A variety of features are included in the standalone edition, so check out the list below.

- Brutal Assassin: Beyond an exceptional sailor and pirate, Adéwalé is a melee master, wielding devastating weapons such as his signature machete and deadly blunderbuss. - Unique Environment: Port au Prince, Haiti serves as the verdant backdrop as you rebuild the Maroon slave resistance in an attempt to overthrow the deeply-entrenched slave trade. - Peril on The High Seas: Command the Experto Crede, Adéwalé’s cherished brig, and improve it as you play through upgrades and collectibles!

Assassin's Creed Freedom Cry standalone will cost on the PS3 and PS4 15 USD/EUR. Check out a cinematic trailer below.
