Ubisoft has revealed that the new Tyranny of King Washington expansion for Assassin's Creed 3 shows a new side of protagonist Connor, as he's going to experience some changes in the add-on that takes place in an alternate reality.

Assassin's Creed 3 allowed players to control Connor, a young assassin who shaped the American Revolution despite being half-British half-Native American.

In the new Tyranny of King Washington expansion, however, Connor truly assumes his Native American identity of Ratonhnhaké:ton, as he needs to stop George Washington, who's now an evil tyrant bent on subjugating the American colonies using the Apple of Eden.

According to the expansion's creative director, Marc-Alexis Côté, who talked with CVG, the DLC will also tackle this evolution of the main character.

"I don't want to spoil the story too much, but the new Ratonhnhaké:ton starts out as Connor. It's a kind of weird puzzle for the player to solve. The first thing he sees is his mother, and he's like, 'What are you doing here? Why are you alive?' These are questions that will follow the player throughout the three DLCs, and you'll get an answer - a very satisfying answer - at the end."

What's more, he also mentioned that players can uncover much more about this major transformation by engaging in secondary activities that involve hunting down collectibles.

"You can actually start to get a glimpse of that answer by participating in the secondary gameplay loop, and collecting what we call Memory Artefacts. When you collect three of them in one episode, you get a video, which is part of a longer video that explains to you how Connor came to be Ratonhnhaké:ton in this alternate reality. So it all fits together in an experience that is canon, that is important, and that fits into the mythology of the Assassin's Creed universe."

Moreover, the end of the Tyranny of King Washington will allow players to choose if they want to stay or leave the parallel reality.

"He knows something is wrong and something doesn't gel," Côté said about Connor. "The more he becomes embedded in this reality, the harder it is for him to separate himself, and by the end he will have a choice to stay or leave."

The first episode of the expansion, Tyranny of King Washington: The Infamy, is now live for Assassin's Creed 3 on the PC and Xbox 360, and will be released for PS3 and Wii U tomorrow, February 20, and on Thursday, February 21, respectively.
