Assassin's Creed Still A PS3 Exclusive

An "official" statement from Ubisoft has caused a storm of controversy on the Internet.

According to the French website xbox-gamer.net, Ubisoft confirmed during the Interactive Digital Entertainment Festivale (IDEF) 2006 that Assassin's Creed is currently under development for both Xbox 360 and PC. In response however, a UK Community Manager that goes by the name of UbiRazz has been busily locking threads announcing the news, saying: "Ubisoft have confirmed no such thing. Assassin's Creed will come on PlayStation 3 and at this time, no other platform has been confirmed."

With this latest debunking of Assassin's Creed multi-platform future from Ubisoft, PS3 fans still hope the game will be an exclusive. But even though Ubisoft's stance on the subject remains unchanged at present, considering their close ties with Microsoft, an Xbox 360 version remains a distinct possibility.

And, hopefully, all the controversy and widespread interest in their game will help Ubisoft eventually come to their senses and include all three platforms into their scheme, especially since it is a well known fact that all successful games - as Assassin's Creed seems bound to be - are important sources of revenue, which they certainly can't ignore. We'll have to wait and see, but I wouldn't worry too much.
