The PlayStation Portable console has been a pretty successful one, managing to move over 50 million units ever since it was released. This is an even greater feat as the platform hasn't really been supported by many high-quality titles from third-party developers, instead relying on Sony to actually offer games for it.
But the tide is turning and, with the announcement of the PSP Go, the platform is coming to life once more. We've already heard about a lot of successful Sony franchises arriving to the small device, like LittleBigPlanet or Motorstorm, but one of the biggest is Ubisoft's Assassin's Creed: Bloodlines.
Picking up straight from where the first title ended, it will continue the saga of Altair and his mission against the Knights Templar. It seems that the “core gameplay” won't change and will offer free-running and an intuitive combat system in order to meet the high expectations of fans.
“As it was the case in Assassin's Creed, Altair will get to explore various large cities,” Frederic Lefrancois, third-party producer for the game at Griptonite Studio, said in a prepared Q&A. “This time around Altair will discover the cities of Limasol and Kyrenia in Cyprus, a beautiful and historically very interesting island in the Mediterranean Sea.”
“Once again, you can expect Altair to master his environment while performing all of his signature moves. In fact, Altair will free-run, sprint, fly between beams and climb everywhere to take advantage of its surroundings. This is a huge benchmark technology wise as this kind of freedom of movement has never been seen before on the PSP.”
Eight new mission types will be included, thus adding to the variety of the gameplay, which lacked in the first full-fledged title in the series. Also, picking up from where the first one left off – and this fragment can be considered a spoiler for those who haven't played the first game – it will see Altair follow the remaining Templars, which, led by Armand Bouchart, have fled the Holy Land towards Cyprus.
“As players unlock health and Hidden blade upgrades in Assassin's Creed 2 PS3, the same upgrades will be unlocked in Assassin's Creed: Bloodlines” Lefrancois said. “It also works the other way round: on the PS3 you will be able to access any Templar Coins and special weapons you've collected on the PSP.”
Overall, Assassin's Creed: Bloodlines is shaping up together quite nicely, as you can see from the video below, courtesy of GameTrailers.
