Microsoft has moved its face-off with the European Commission in the public arena by suggesting that irresponsible intervention into the Windows Vista product design would determine
the push-back of the operating system's release date in Europe. The Redmond Company has upped the stakes, commissioning a market impact study to the IDC.

According to IDC, Windows Vista will generate in excess of 50,000 jobs across six European countries: Denmark, France, Germany, Poland, Spain and the UK. Additionally, IDC revealed that a further 1 million jobs stand to benefit from the release of Windows Vista. This is the case as 1,050,000 jobs would be involved in the sale of Vista or the development of compatible applications.

"Windows Vista will be an important launch for Microsoft," said IDC's Marcel Warmerdam research director, IDC European IT markets. "But it will be an even more important launch for a much larger and more extensive community around the world."

As Vista is forecasted to find its way onto more than 30 million machines in the six European markets included in the study, and another 105 million on a global basis, IDC predicts that the operating system will create a revenue of 32 billion euros.
