Last Sunday, Indy 500 champion Dario Franchitti crashed his car during the Houston Grand Prix and was rushed to the hospital with an injured spine, a crushed ankle, and a concussion. His estranged wife, actress Ashley Judd, has rushed to be by his side, it has emerged.

Ashley and Dario, once considered one of the few “golden couples” of showbiz, announced they had separated in January this year.

As far as the press knows, they are still to file for divorce but, what’s more important, they still remain on excellent terms: the moment she found out about his injury, she rushed to visit him in hospital, Us Weekly reports.

She also kept her fans updated with everything on Twitter, thanking them for their beautiful messages of love and support.

“Amazed by the incredible outpouring of care & prayers. Thanks, everyone. Keeping our heads down here & doing what's in front of us to do,” she wrote, as cited by the e-zine.

“Thank you for the prayers for @dariofranchitti I have only clothes on my back & the dogs but that's all that we need & we are on our way,” Ashley added.

After the crash, Dario went into surgery to fix his broken ankle. However, he also fractured 2 vertebrae in the accident.

Several other people were also injured by debris from his vehicle, with two of them believed to be in more serious condition.

When Ashley and Dario announced their separation in a joint statement, they strove to make it clear that they would still remain friends.

“We have mutually decided to end our marriage. We'll always be family and continue to cherish our relationship based on the special love, integrity, and respect we have always enjoyed,” they said.

They are clearly still on very good terms.
