Papa Joe Simpson has been working overtime on bringing his two daughters back in the spotlight, and it looks like his efforts are finally paid off. Jessica is featured shaving and sporting a wet swimming suit in Esquire magazine, thus ensuring that part of the male population on this planet will at least remember her name, if not what she does for a living (by the way, what is it these days?), and in a surprising, but not unexpected twist, it has just been revealed that Jessica's younger sister Ashlee is engaged to be married to Fall Out Boy bassist Pete Wentz, whom she has been dating for a little under two years.
"We know there has been a lot of speculation recently about Pete and I, and we wanted our fans to be the first to know, because you guys are the best," reads a statement posted by Ashlee Simpson on friendsorenemies. "Yes, we are thrilled to share that we are happily engaged. Thank you for all of your support and well wishes - it means the world to us. We consider this to be a very private matter, and we wanted to be the first to tell you and to hear it straight from us," she added. Of course, Ashlee's daddy couldn't help himself putting his two cents in and stated for People that he's "totally happy" and "so excited to have Pete as part of (our) family. We are blessed," he declared.
"I think the first day that we met that we were attracted to each other," Ashlee herself stated for people in a recent interview, before the couple's engagement was officially announced. "Neither one of us did anything that was good," Wentz added, explaining that, at the moment, they were both involved with other people. And, of course, once hooked up, they quickly realized they were perfect for one another.
"He's a cutie," The younger Simpson says, "and he has an awesome personality and kind of brings out the best of me and I knew that even before we were dating. There was just like an awesome connection we had". Rumors of the couple's engagement started swirling in February, when Simpson was spotted wearing a diamond ring on her engagement finger. When asked about it, she called it a "promise ring" and added that "it just means that he hasn't asked my dad yet". Apparently, that particular obstacle has been surpassed, so Pete and Ash can now live happily ever after, sharing their make-up and hair straighteners.
