Ashlee Simpson has long distanced herself from her pop star roots and is now considered one of the coolest and fashionable women in showbiz. The other night, at the 2013 American Ballet Theatre Opening Night Spring Gala at NYC’s Lincoln Center, she further confirmed her fashion icon status.

Ashlee was one of the many celebrities in attendance, posing for pictures on the red carpet and, as the Daily Mail puts it, she actually managed to outshine professional models.

Voices online note that it was her gorgeous black lace dress and perfect styling that made her look a total winner. Others point out that, with Ashlee, it’s all about the attitude.

“Ashlee showed some skin in a sequined black dress with a cut-out back,” the Mail writes.

“The frock boasted a lace neckline with sweetheart cut bodice and feather trim at the waist. The 28-year-old showcased the cut-out section of the dress by tying her blonde curls into a ponytail, and topped off her look with emerald earrings,” adds the same media outlet.

She also accessorized with a metal clutch, that added a plus of sophistication to an already gorgeous outfit.

Overall, the result was an image of pure, old-school glamour.

Other stars who rocked the red carpet include model Coco Rocha and Lucy Liu, and new mommy Uma Thurman, who looked simply flawless in a retro-inspired white gown.

Sigourney Weaver, Anne V, Alek Wek, Sasha Cohen, and Jessica Stam were also in attendance, all looking appropriately glamorous.

Model Chanel Iman wore a gorgeous fuchsia ball gown but, for some reason, chose to lie on the stairs for pictures, which, the Mail believes, was a bit out of place and too much of an attention-seeking gesture for such an occasion.
