Genard Parker, Ashanti's first producer, surfaced after the star made millions out of her albums, asking for no less than $2 million under the claim that she had breached the contract she had with him. Parker first met the multi-platinum singer when she was just 16, promising her fame and glory in the music industry.
The two recorded a few demo tapes that got the cold shoulder from all the record companies where they submitted them. Then, seeing that he could not deliver what he promised, Parker signed a legal document, saying that he was releasing the singer from her contract.
Last year, he filed court papers asking for damages on the count of 'breach of contract'. The first judge appointed on the case ordered Ashanti to pay her former manager $630,000, the second stated the first time around the case was not thoroughly analyzed and ruled that she has to pay him only $50,000.
The case was opened again a couple of days ago but it settled the very next day, with both parties reaching an understanding. 'I'm very pleased the plaintiff has voluntarily dismissed the case against us', the singer said yesterday, on the steps of the courthouse.
Attorneys for both parties refused to say whether or not any sum of money changed hands.
