Ashanti has followed in the footsteps of stars such as Jennifer Lopez and Britney Spears (whose second fragrance Fantasy debuted a day after Sean Preston was born), Beyonce Knowles, Paris Hilton, Sarah Jessica Parker and Hilary Duff, by launching her own perfume.
The venture is named Precious Jewel.
"This project was very precious to me. I wanted everything to be perfect!
I must have driven the fragrance developers nuts by making sure everything was exactly how I envisioned", the R&B singer has recently declared.
"I definitely put one hundred percent into this scent.
From mixing the fruity and the floral, I was all about scent and smelling good", Ashanti had previously stated during a press conference in September.
"I always said that the perfume field was getting kind of flooded.
A lot of people were doing a lot of the same thing.
But I also said that if I ever got a wonderful opportunity... of course I'd take advantage of it.
It was all about making my scent accessible to all my fans. And what better way than to sell the fragrance at Wal-Mart - there are stores all over the country and I love that a consumer can buy my CD and fragrance at the same time", the singer confessed.
According to her representative, the scent "is fruity without being overpowering, powdery enough without giving a headache."
Precious Jewel comes in perfume, mist and shimmer stick, and is available at discount store chain Wal-Mart starting this week, reports MTV News.
