We might end up seeing a budget Polaroid tablet out of Asda

Are supermarket chains going to eat all the tablet business in the near future? At least in the UK, this appears to be case.

Retail chains like Tesco, Aldi and Argos have already pushed their own branded budget tablets out on the market, and now Asda has confirmed it will be jumping on the same bandwagon.

Director of Electronics at Asda, Ayaz Alam cautiously stated that the supermarket titan is looking into the possibility of bringing a slate to life, reports PCAdvisor.

“[Our own tablet] is something that we’re looking at. We want to make sure that if we did anything like that we are in a position to satisfy customers with exactly what they want.”

“The competition has felt the need to go and invest quickly in their own-label tablets and some have done horrendously badly. We are not about to make the same mistake. We will make sure we launch with great quality and great value.”

At the moment we could speculate that Asda might use its own Polaroid brand when it comes to tablet making; but when it comes to specs, we'll just have to wait and see.

Supermarket tablets have proved to be a success, with Tesco’s Hudl selling more than 300,000 units in two months and Aldi’s LifeTab selling out over the weekend, so it’s no wonder Asda wants a piece of the pie.
