Developer Hapa Games has just released the final teaser trailer for their upcoming debut project, a relentless side-scrolling combat game for the PC, titled Ascendant.

The trailer is part of a series called Divinity or Death, with each installment hinting at the player's more than likely demise at the hands of the in-game bosses, which will purportedly happen often and in a variety of ways.

The latest trailer informs us of something that we already ought to know, the fact that fire hurts, something that will most likely be of great consequence in the upcoming game.

Ascendant will challenge players with unforgiving beat 'em up action and a new world in every playthrough, employing a number of roguelike elements such as permadeath and procedurally generated environments.

Players are cast as a demigod invading a plane controlled by one of his rivals. By exploring the world, gamers will be able to discover new weapons, abilities and Blessings, and learn how to survive in the brutal realm.

If you want to see the actual game in action, you can head over to Hapa Game's YouTube channel, where you can find the official trailer as well as an interview with creator Nick Farah.

Ascendant's launch date is currently set for May 6, 2014, and the game will be available exclusively on Windows PC.
