Renowned architect and artist Maya Lin recently decided to begin work on a memorial dedicated to the natural world. Her goal was that of raising awareness with respect to how many species have been lost over the years, and how countless others are presently endangered.

Her project, suggestively entitled “What is missing?”, has an interactive website as its central piece.

Here, the artist uploaded videos, audio recordings, photos and text messages, all of which are meant to help bring forth an accurate image of how our planet's biodiversity was negatively impacted on as human society developed and grew.

Speaking about this virtual ecological map she created, Maya Lin explains how: “I wanted something that would be subtle, I wanted something you would want to explore.”

Truth be told, we already spent some time on said website ourselves, and found it to be bitter-sweet. Should you wish to also access it, you can do so here.
