Azeroth is under attack

The zombie attack that took place in Blizzard's World of Warcraft MMO close to Halloween was only the first one related to the upcoming launch of the second expansion for the game called Wrath of the Lich King. If you log into the game now, you can still witness the siege of Azeroth by the famed Lich King, the former prince Arthas.

The event, which seems to take place every 20 minutes or so, is based around the Horde capital city of Orgrimarr. There, players can find Arthas, in his battle armor, leading Forst Wyrms and Abdominations against the defenders of the city. The Ring of Valor of Orgrimarr is also hosting a titanic fight between the Orc leader Thrall and Garrosh Hellscream, while the leader of the Forsaken Undead, Lady Sylvanas, is also battling the Scourge. The entire sequence of events seems epic and a powerful announcement related to what is to come in the expansion, the biggest batch of content ever added to the MMO.

Apparently, the Alliance is also getting ready for a big fight, probably against another Scourge assault. Players who travel to Stormwind Harbor can find King Varian Wrynn, the leader of the Alliance, as he organizes a war council there with other significant NPCs from his side. A nice detail that Blizzard has thrown in is leaving a map of Azeroth accessible to players in the area which shows the entire world but with an addition: a new continent which sits just south of the Maelstrom that dominates the center of the map. Is it possible that the developers will unveil more than one continent in the upcoming expansion or is Blizzard already teasing players with sights from an update which is set to come just after Wrath of the Lich King? We'll probably learn that on November 13.
