Arthas Arena 2 – The Ultimate Experience

Arthas Arena is a custom-made map for Warcraft 3, and it represents the next level of a Castle Defense map. Created by Clord, it may remind you of the Footman maps, but it has lots of other new and great things.

When it starts, the host has to choose the difficulty of the game: Normal, Hard, Very Hard, Brutal, Be Force With You. The map will support up to 12 players, each with three production buildings. You can mix a maximum of three out of six available races – Coral Bed (Naga), Boulder Tower (Draenei), Farm (Allience), Orc Burrow (Orc), Ziggurat (Scourge), Moon Well (Night Elf) – which also limit your hero choice.

The great thing about this map is the advanced AI system. When somebody leaves, the AI automatically takes over. When one or more computer players are added, the match becomes very interesting: the Box of Surprises can’t be damaged, and sea combat and Ship Yards are disabled. The AI player is able to retreat, advance, buy items and air units, upgrade, micromanage troops like melee and lots of other great things, all to be a worthy adversary.

The center castle is not your ordinary Warcraft III fortress. It has five Castle Towers that can shoot separately to five individual targets. When you capture the center castle you will also gain control of a hero named Arthas and the castle will start producing knights for you.

When map starts and ships are spawned, the first thing you must do is send your ships to destroy at least one of the four Boxes of Surprises. Inside these treasure boxes you will find 1000 gold and items that you can later use to boost the hero stat. Destroying one or several boxes will give you a big advantage over your opponents. Also, in the beginning you should research at least one attack, defense and hit point upgrade. This can be done from your Blacksmith building located at the top-center of the map. In order to stand a chance you are required to upgrade one of your structures to Tier 2.

In order to win on this map you must either destroy all your opponents or gain control of the center castle. Losing control of the center castle for a few minutes will not reset the counter.

In order to play this map you will have to install Warcraft 3:Reign of Chaos and the Frozen Throne add-on. Also, in order to play on the battlenet you need the latest Warcraft 3 patch. Create an account, download the map, place it in the Maps/Download folder and you are ready to go.
