Arsenal made a strong argument yesterday night. Arsene Wenger's team showed the other European powers that they mean business in this year's edition of the Champions League.
Although they were holding a 3-0 advantage over Croatia's Dinamo Zagreb from the 1st leg, the gunners stayed focused and won their first home game of the season.
Therefore, Arsenal managed its first win on the Emirates stadium. The wonderful arena witnessed a great game by the gunners, despite several absences in the starting line-up - just like the 1st leg. Without Cole, Henry, Rosiky or Reyes, Arsenal scored 2 late goals and secured a 100% record in the competition so far.
"Not to create a problem, it is better to win. People would have said 'you cannot win at your new stadium' if we had not won. It is good to get it out of the way", explained Wenger his team's success. Still, it wasn't such a walk in the park for the gunners, since the home side entered the game slightly out of focus.
"It is difficult psychologically when you are 3-0 up to go into a game like mad. They caught us well and maybe they could have surprised opponents of less quality. I felt we had a little bit sloppy start then it became difficult for us. When you do not start very well, it is always difficult to come back in a convincing manner. We had merit to come back and win the game because in the second half, it was all us", admitted the Frenchman.
Eduardo scored Dinamo Zagreb's goal in the 12th minute, and the game was getting interesting. Still, the Croatians failed to produce a second till the half-time and the second half went on as a practice session for Arsenal. Freddie Ljundberg and Flamini scored the Arsenal goals in the 77th and 90th minute respectively, giving Arsenal its first win on home ground.
