The arrest of the Russia hacker known as Paunch, the alleged creator of the BlackHole exploit kit, has been confirmed.

Aleks Gostev, chief security expert at global research and analysis team at Kaspersky Lab, has said that his sources have confirmed the arrest. In addition, Troels Oerting, head of Europol’s European Cybercrime Centre, has also confirmed the news for TechWeek Europe.

For the time being, no one has been able to provide any details. Before the arrest of Paunch was confirmed, security researchers found several clues in support of the rumors.

For instance, the crypt.am encryption service used for BlackHole is down. Furthermore, a Java applet that’s usually updated by the BlackHole developer at least once a day hasn’t been changed for over four days.

Hopefully, Russian authorities will issue an official statement to provide more details.
