An arrest warrant has been issued in the name of wrestler Ric Flair after he failed to pay spousal support to his estranged wife for several months, despite what the court had ruled a few months back.

Earlier this month, the wrestler was held in contempt for failing to pay Jacqueline Beems a grand total of $32,000 (€24,371), Charlotte Observer reports.

If he pays, the arrest warrant goes away.

Luckily, Flair says he has every intention of doing just that.

“Flair, one of Charlotte’s best known celebrities whose given name is Richard Fliehr, was ordered to pay $4,000 [€3,046] a month to Jacqueline Beems, who filed for a legal separation last summer. The money was intended to go for her car payment, health insurance and legal fees,” the publication reports.

On July 3, as a result of his not paying the stipulated amount, the arrest warrant was issued.

In a statement to the Charlotte Observer, Flair says that he did not skip on payments out of ill will but rather because he wasn’t financially able to do so.

He aims to set the wrong right today.

“The reason I didn’t pay my ex-wife the 32 grand is because my son died and I was in the hospital for a month. I was in the hospital for a month with a blood clot. I didn’t go to work for three months,” he says.

Flair’s 25-year-old son died of an OD in March this year.

However, not paying spousal support isn’t the only reason Flair has been making headlines in recent weeks.

Just recently, he told authorities that Beems, his ex-wife, had been making very threatening phone calls to his current girlfriend, which made her fear for her life.

Beems was consequently charged with a misdemeanor, making a harassing phone call, and will have to show up in court to answer it.

“Flair and Beems were married in November 2009 and separated in June 2012, when Beems accused her husband of committing ‘acts of marital misconduct’,” the Charlotte Observer says.

They’ve been duking it out in court ever since.
