Before the cheating / love child scandal broke and ended Arnold Schwarzenegger’s marriage to Maria Shriver, he was about to relaunch his film career. He put a halt to it immediately afterwards – but is now ready to get back in the saddle.

At the time he announced that he wanted to go back to doing movies since he was done with politics, Arnold also said he was looking at about 15 projects for his comeback.

When the scandal broke, he canceled all acting plans, saying he wanted to focus on his family instead. Fans understood, because it was the logical thing to do.

The same fans must be ecstatic right now: Arnold is picking up where he left off and, putting the controversy behind him, is going back to work, E! Online writes.

“The former Governor’s on-again, off-again project with Lionsgate is back on (again),” the e-zine says.

The film is called “Last Stand,” is a western and will mark the debut of director Kim Ji-woon in English-speaking films.

Arnold will play a border sheriff in a very small town who has to make the decision of whether he’s willing to put his own life at risk to protect his town from a Mexican cartel.

“It’s a property which a zillion directors fell in love with: the good, the bad, the weird,” a Lionsgate executive is quoted as saying about the film.

Apparently, the character is a perfect fit for Arnold and not just physically, the same executive goes on to say.

“It’s an old-fashioned Western specifically designed for a 63-year-old broken-down guy with a moral decision whether Arnold decides to stand up for his town. We always needed an iconic figure for it,” the source says.

Since he’s officially back to work, word online has it that Arnold will probably do the other movies he’s been signed on, after he’s done with “The Last Stand.”

Production on this one will start in September, with a possible 2012 release date in mind.
