Army of Two wasn't one of the best games in the world, at least according to its Metacritic rank, which was 72 for the Xbox 360 and 74 for the PlayStation 3. It was one of the first games to actually place a lot of emphasis on the co-operative play, as gamers were given the role of two mercenaries who needed to fulfill missions across a very long timeline.

Despite the fact that it didn't really do so well in terms of sales, it seems that Electronic Arts has tasked its Montreal studio to develop a sequel to it, thus giving birth to a lot of rumors concerning the title of the game. Now, the company decided to make it official and release details about the game, which will be named Army of Two: The 40th Day.

The game will take place in a war-torn Shanghai, where the dynamic duo of mercenaries, Salem and Rios, are at the wrong time, as a series of catastrophes, cleverly orchestrated by an evil mastermind, threaten the Chinese City. Players will have to navigate through the city in order to find out the truth behind the 40th day.

“With Army Of Two: The 40th Day, we’re pushing the tactical two-man military team into new battlegrounds offering a completely organic and rich co-op experience to deliver an action-packed co-op shooter this winter,” says Reid Schneider, executive producer, EA Montreal. “As chaos blankets Shanghai, China, you must rely on your partner to survive as you weave through a broken city left devastated in a mysterious wake.”

The game, which will be heading to the PlayStation 3, the Xbox 360 and, most importantly, the PlayStation Portable, is due out this winter, just in time to duke it out with all of the other blockbuster titles, like God of War III or BioShock 2: Sea of Dreams. Look forward to more details in the months to come.
