Australian independent developer League of Geeks has announced that its turn-based fantasy digital board game Armello will be coming to the PlayStation 4 home console this September.

The game is described by its makers on the PlayStation Blog as "Game of Thrones meets Kung-Fu Panda," due to the fact that it features intrigue, several factions vying for control of a kingdom, and adorable anthropomorphic animals.

Hopefully, it will also have top-notch writing, silly antics, and exciting gameplay mechanics. It also bears a striking similarity to the Mage Knight board game, and looks genuinely interesting, especially since it takes care of the micromanagement that complex physical games entail.

You play the role of leader of one of the four animal tribes that are looking to become the next rulers of the land, when a mysterious blight starts affecting the king and his actions.

The king is dead, long live the king

The setting is a mystical world of magic and lush environments that is also afflicted by a tinge of darkness. The mad lion king terrorizes the kingdom, and the not necessarily noble animal clans decide to strike him down in his royal palace.

The action in Armello takes place on a hex map, and each of them presents various unique interactions, mysterious encounters, deadly dungeon, towns that can be captured to expand your clan's influence, and a lot of other similar things.

The game has been funded through a crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter, and it has also been released on Steam Early Access, in order to get additional funding and get more features in.

The final version of the title will support up to eight different players in competitive multiplayer, and is now also coming to the PS4. You can catch a glimpse of its vibrant visuals in the atmospheric trailer below.

Armello is scheduled for a September release, headed to the PC, Mac, Linux, and PlayStation 4 platforms. The game is already available on Steam Early Access, in an incomplete edition.
