Paul Dini, the writer who worked with developer Rocksteady on the creation of Batman: Arkham City, confirmed that he is no longer involved with the superhero-powered franchise and suggested that the new title in the series might be very different from the one he worked on.

Speaking on his personal blog, the writer stated, “It was intimated that for future games, Warner and Rocksteady might not be looking as much to freelance writers, the message being, that if I had something else interesting coming my way, I might want to take it.”

Apparently, he was ready to move on since the new Harley Quinn’s Revenge downloadable content was announced, and Dini wasted no time in lining up other projects.

He added, “It was fun working with Warners and Rocksteady on the first two Arkham games and I am grateful to them both for a tremendous experience. Rocksteady has a great crew of artists and storytellers, and it was exciting and enlightening for me to be part of that team. If we wind up working together again at some point, that would be cool, too.”

Batman: Arkham City was praised for the story that it told and how it managed to create a balanced experience without too many plot holes, while also introducing a big number of the traditional enemies of the superhero.

The narrative, paired with solid fighting and exploration mechanics, made Batman: Arkham City one of the bestselling games of last year.

The rumors coming from developer Rocksteady are suggesting that the company and publisher Warner Bros. will drop the modern setting for their next Batman project and will draw inspiration from his Silver Age of comic books incarnation.

The game was not officially announced, which might mean that it will only be delivered on next-generation gaming consoles.
