Indie video game developer Studio Wildcard has announced an open-world survival game for PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4. The best thing about it? It's with dinosaurs.

Ark: Survival Evolved is built using Unreal Engine 4, which means that it looks pretty good, and aims to deliver a multiplayer experience set in a persistent environment where crafting, hunting and tech development will be your main occupations.

For the time being, the studio boasts that the game will feature 60 dinosaurs, and they sure look exciting in the trailer.

The game offers players the opportunity to create tribes, and meeting other people will be as hazardous as coming face to face with a T-Rex. Players will have to engage in both cooperative and competitive multiplayer, with emergent gameplay stemming from the exciting world the action is set in.

Just like in any other survival game, you begin naked on the beach, and then proceed to tame dinosaurs, build shelter, advance technology, harvest resources, in order to protect yourself and the other members of your tribe from the volatile weather system and dangerous wildlife.

You can help make the dinosaurs extinct once more

"ARK taps into the scale, size, and wildly unpredictable nature of the dinosaur eras like no other game before it, then pairs it with the wonders of exploration and technological discovery. We're particularly excited to bring ARK to consoles, as open-world survival gameplay is typically found solely in PC games," said Jesse Rapczak, co-founder and co-creative director.

The studio also mentions support for virtual reality technology, namely Oculus Rift, and Steam Workshop integration for custom maps and mods.

If you want to learn more about the game, you can visit Ark: Survival Evolved's Steam page and you can sign up for the upcoming alpha on its website.

Until then, enjoy the video below, consisting of actual gameplay footage, captured from live online sessions. There are several sequences that are oddly reminiscent of Philip José Farmer's Riverworld books, which only makes the game more exciting.

Ark: Survival Evolved is scheduled for release on Steam Early Access on June 2. The game's final release date is pegged for early 2016.
