Ark Linux & Ark Linux Live 2007.1 Released

- A KDE-based Linux distribution for home and office!

By: Marius Nestor, Linux Editor

The Ark Linux team has announced the availability of Ark Linux 2007.1 and Ark Linux Live 2007.1, a version that brings new drivers, better hardware detection, encrypted wireless network and new software:

"The Ark Linux team is pleased to announce the immediate availability of Ark Linux 2007.1, the latest version of its multi purpose desktop operating system. Ark Linux can be used for office/school work, desktop publishing, graphics, multimedia entertainment/editing, gaming, software development, and more."

Ark Linux 2007.1 includes up-to-date software such as:

• Linux kernel 2.6.22.3
• glibc 2.6.1
• gcc 4.2.1
• KDE 3.5.7
• Amarok 1.4.7
• OpenOffice.org 2.2.1

About Ark Linux:

Ark Linux is a GNU/Linux distribution designed especially for desktop use, easy to handle even by people without a Linux background experience while still powerful enough for experienced users.

The main goals of Ark Linux are:

• be easy to learn and use
• include all the tools and applications the typical desktop user will need
• avoid becoming "bloated"
• make the installation of additional software as easy and fast as possible
• be a technically sane development environment

About Ark Linux Live:

Ark Linux Live is a Live CD version of Ark Linux, which means it can be booted directly from the CD, without requiring installation.

The primary uses of the Live CD are:

• Recovering a normal system after a big hardware or software failure (Ark Linux will launch a special live CD for this purpose later, with more recovery tools and fewer other tools)
• Checking the system out without any risk
• Showing others what Linux is like, on their own hardware
• Taking your favorite operating system with you; e.g. surfing the net with Linux even if you're on vacation and the only Internet cafe in town is a Microsoft shop;

Softpedia's Linux Team has given Ark Linux the "Softpedia Pick Award"!
