Arista has recently announced the introduction of the Arista 7050 series, a 10 and 40 Gigabit Ethernet switching system that delivers 1.28TB of switching performance at under 2 watts per 10GbE interface and that was purpose-built for broad data center environments.

The new Arista 7050-64, the first model to be released into the new series, is built using the Broadcom Trident+ chipset and supports 48 wirespeed 10GbE SFP+ interfaces as well as increased uplink density with 4x40Gb QSFP connectors that can work as either 40GbE or 4x10GbE providing a total of 64 10GbE ports in one switch.

In order to achieve these impressive performances, the switch is powered by a dual-core x86 processor paired together with 4GB of RAM memory, and can also be configured to feature a 50GB SSD.

This can be used for transforming the switch into an PXE boot server or for storing syslogs and other system data.

In addition, the Arista 7050-64 has been designed with high availability in mind as it features a 1+1 hot-swappable PSU arrangement, as well as four N+1 hot-swappable cooling fans.

Just as all the other product's in Arista's portfolio, the 7050-series devices also run the Extensible Operating System (EOS).

“The new 7050 Series delivers the lowest power draw per port of any 10GbE switch, uses the latest in silicon technologies, delivering the highest-density with twice the routing scale of competing products, in our one rack unit networking platform,” stated Jeff Hirschman vice president of hardware engineering and manufacturing at Arista.

“With the 7050, our customers can continue to meet and exceed the demands of 10GbE data centers, dense virtualization, and big data warehousing deployments,” concluded the company's rep.

The new Arista 7050-64 switch is available right now for purchase and prices start at $29,995 USD.
