She's been already been named the “next Mariah Carey,” but pop singer Ariana Grande is now making headlines for allegations that she might have copied lyrics from a 1972 song called “Troglodyte.” The matter is being resolved in court.

The suit alleges that several parts of Ariana's song, “The Way,” which has spent 26 weeks in the Billboard charts, copies several parts from a song by The Jimmy Castor Bunch.

The main issues are some lyrics within the song, “What we gotta do here is go back, back in time” in Ariana's version, as opposed to “What we're gonna do here is go back, way back, back in time” in the original 1972 song.

The suit is filled by Minder Music, an independent music publishing company, which also claims there are other similarities between the two songs, such as the vocal style and rhythm that would be obvious to any listener.

Ariana Grande's legal team have denied the allegations, saying the 20-year-old pop star has no notion of such a song nor is she aware of any connection to “Troglodyte.”
