Ariana Grande is opening up on her insecurities and how growing up in the spotlight became a nightmare for her, because of them. The singer and actress is featured in the latest issue of Seventeen magazine, with the candid interview and a very beautiful photospread.

You’d probably not be able to tell it by looking at her, but Ariana is 21. She rose to fame on television at a much earlier age, and as these things go, fame wasn’t all positive for her because she was often picked on online and criticized for the smallest and least important things, like styling her hair in the same manner and her every fashion choice.

At the 2014 edition of the Grammys earlier this year, while posing on the red carpet, she was in tears because, just minutes before, she had read a negative comment on Twitter about her dress.

That part of her will never surface, she seems to be saying in this new interview. She has finally worked through her problems and has overcome her insecurities.

“It’s tough to spend some of the most important years of your life in front of so many strangers who want to pick you apart. Insecurity has been the hardest thing I’ve had to overcome. I think everyone my age struggles with that because everyone strives for approval and wants to feel loved,” Ariana tells the mag.

Having to go through all this as a public person must be twice as hard than it is for a non-celebrity.

Ariana isn’t the only pop star to say these things, in a bid to make people understand that negative comments online do affect the people they’re about. Demi Moore has also been very candid about her experience of growing up in the spotlight, which turned her to drugs, alcohol, and self-harm when she thought she wasn’t strong enough to cope with it on her own.

“Everybody has certain things that make them feel insecure. Even when you overcome a huge battle in your life and you make a ton of progress as a person, there are still things that will upset you and break your heart. But I feel like I’m at a point in my life where love is the most important thing, and I won’t let anything come before it,” Grande continues.

She also tells Seventeen about her relationship with her dad and the huge falling out they had this year. She doesn’t go into details but she stresses that she’s learned to accept the fact that she doesn’t have the answers for everything.

As painful as it’s been for her, she has learned that you can love someone and not get along with them, as is the case with her and her dad.
