Crytek has just announced a brand-new IP, an action-packed multiplayer online game titled Arena of Fate.

The game will allow players to assume control of legendary figures hailing from both our history as well as our fantasy lore, and then engage in brutal 5v5 battles, as the official announcement reveals.

Among the iconic figures that gamers will be able to take on during engagements are notable characters such as Frankenstein, Jack the Ripper and Baron Munchhausen, each one bringing their famed traits into the fray, from Frankenstein's ability to come back from the dead and Baron Munchhausen's legendary cannonball ride, propelling him across the map, to Jack the Ripper's ability to… well... slash people to death.

"Imagine Joan of Arc and Robin Hood cooperating to hunt down Little Red Riding Hood – Wouldn’t that be terrific? But besides the game's iconic heroes, which everyone in the team really loves, we are also challenging ourselves to carefully craft a streamlined player experience that allows for both greater accessibility, and rich, deep, action-packed gameplay."

"We are very excited to meet the first wave of players in the arena this summer, and will be listening carefully to the feedback we receive and making the community's contribution a key part of our efforts to perfect the fun," said Vesselin Handjiev, managing director of Crytek Black Sea and Arena of Fate Game director.

The game is being developed by the same studio that created the real-time strategy game Knights of Honor, as well as the science fiction online real-time strategy / role-playing game hybrid WorldShift.

If you want to learn more about the game, you can check out the Arena of Fate website, where registrations for the game's upcoming beta test are also open. The beta test is scheduled to start on PC, sometime this summer.

The website also mentions characters Tesla, Joan of Arc, Robin Hood, Fenrir, and Little Red Riding Hood. There's a good chance to also have a big bad wolf thrown in at some point.

Arena of Fate will be a kind of MOBA, but Crytek has refrained from using the term during the announcement and has mentioned some new gameplay twists, so we're eagerly awaiting for them to offer more details.

It's most likely another MOBA though, but it will hopefully also bring some new elements into the concoction, and not just be another League of Legends of Dota 2 clone.

The game will be playable at this year's edition of the E3 expo, so we're bound to get new info pretty soon.
