Greenpeace says Apple is willing to care more about the environment

Not that Apple doesn't care for the environment, they do, but big bad Greenpeace places it lowest on their environmental report card for using toxic chemicals in production processes and other environmental crimes.

"Despite being a leader in innovation and design, Apple has made absolutely no improvements to its policies or practices", said Rick Hind at Greenpeace last year, when Apple ranked last on the 'Guide to Greener Electronics'. Apple scored 'bad' and 'partially bad' for all Greenpeace categories, except one: 'Amounts recycled'.

Well, looks like Apple is slowly stepping into the light, according to Greenpeace activists. They say an Apple spokesperson said they would adapt their strategies to fit more Greenpeace's desires. Apple denied making such statements.

"We disagree with Greenpeace's rating and the criteria they chose. Apple has a strong environmental track record and has led the industry in restricting and banning toxic substances", said Apple. Sources say Apple CEO Steve Jobs has met with a Social Responsibility Fund investor and discussed Apple's environmental record, but Apple dismissed these claims as well.

Although Apple denies both the need and intention of addressing its environmental issues, Greenpeace seems to believe Apple will get on the right track. Their strongest concerns are regarding the use of toxic chemicals and not taking responsibility for products when thrown away by customers and hopefully Apple will develop more effective policies regarding these issues.

As nowadays the environment is a major concern for us all, I should say Apple would better try and get on Greenpeace's good side. Not even great computers are worth the degradation of our system. So watch out, Apple, there's no winning against Greenpeace and environmentalists!
