Microsoft working to revamp Windows 10 UI with new icons

Windows 10 will indeed bring quite a lot of new features, including Cortana, a notification center, and multiple desktops, but at the same time, Microsoft is also working to make the operating system more visually appealing by adding several tweaks here and there.

One of the aesthetic changes that are already part of Windows 10 Technical Preview and that could be implemented in the final version of the operating system is a new set of icons that are supposed to offer a fresh and modern look to a product that's often criticized for looking too much like its predecessors.

For Windows 10, Microsoft has prepared new icons that are entirely flat and seem to better match the company's new design approach to make everything simpler and without other visual effects.

And yet, the new icon pack implemented in Windows 10 has been severely criticized by many users out there, with some claiming that the operating system now looks like a childish platform that was designed by a five-year old.

The photo above reveals some of the new icons that are part of Windows 10, including a new “This PC” icon and new folders. All have been revamped to look better in a completely overhauled operating system, but there's still no indication whether the same design could be part of the final version or it's just for testing purposes in the technical preview.

Windows 10 is expected to see light of day in the fall of 2015, so we're not very far from the moment when we'll finally get to see the new icon pack introduced with the new operating system.

But in the meantime, a new icon pack is available for Windows insiders, and despite the criticism, Microsoft suggests that little could actually change before the final version. New icons are added every time a new build is released, and new ones are expected this week, when Windows insiders should get their hands on a brand new version of the OS.

In the end, the main question remains: is the new icon pack in Windows 10 really that awful, as some people out there claim?
