Now that is one company that has never disappointed its fans! This time Archos launches the indestructible Generation 5 of multimedia players.

Archos chose silver to be the star color of the new line. The new portable devices feature a lot of similarities with the previous version, and a couple of extra improvements. Compared to the Archos 405 player, the 605 one is wider, featuring a 4.8 x 3.2 x 0.6-inches. At a first glimpse, the player sports a wider 4.3-inch screen of 800 x 480 pixels. It comes with different hard drives of 0GB, 80GB and 160GB.

Moreover, Archos claims that the best version stores up to 200 1-5 hour clips with 1,000kbit/s MPEG-4 encoding 1,000kbit/s MPEG-4 encoding, and an Epc for video recording. Not bad, at all!

One thing that impressed me is the fact that the 605 player can stream high quality videos from your PC or laptop and record TV shows using the optional DVR Station, DVR travel adapter or Mini Dock.

The features include an extra TV Program Guide. It seems that you can take this fellow anywhere with you!

But, according to Archos, the most important thing is that you can download movies and music using their Archos Content Portal. Moreover, the player can also surf the Web, and download or watch content available on the net. It requires you to download a Flash plug-in to see YouTube or other Flash-based video sites.

The 605 will launch for $230 the 4 GB version, $300 the 30GB version and a spicy 400 bucks for the 160GB model, while the Archos 405 launches for $170, not including the SD.

If you really want to know, both of them are available this summer. Hopefully, the Archos Player is not going to be a French joke, after all!
