Archos, mostly known for its cheap and reliable tablets, has just announced a new line of Titanium smartphones, which will be available within the next few weeks.

Four new mid-range Android handsets with prices starting at €99 ($135) will be released by Archos soon, all powered by MediaTek’s chipsets.

In fact, Archos and MediaTek have teamed up for this new lineup of affordable smartphones. Equally important, all four handsets come with dual-SIM support, which means they will be popular in emerging markets.

“MediaTek is delighted that Archos has chosen the MT6572 3G+ platform as the basis for its new Titanium range of smartphones. The MT6572 integrates into a single solution a powerful 3G+ dual-core processor with advanced Wi-Fi, GPS, Bluetooth and FM functionality,” said Siegmund Redl, vice president and general manager corporate marketing, Europe, MediaTek.

The smartphones will ship with Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean operating system out of the box, as well as HSPA+ (21Mbps) and HSUPA (5.76Mbps) support.

Archos 40, 45, 50 and 53 Titanium come with similar specs, but there are some slight differences as well. For example, they feature different size displays and distinct batteries. Obviously, designs vary as well, but other than that, they’re pretty much the same.

The technical specs of the smartphones include 5-megapixel rear cameras, 1.3 GHz dual-core processors, 512MB of RAM, 4GB of internal memory, microSD card slot for memory expansion (up to 32GB), built-in GPS receiver, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and VGA front-facing cameras.

“Our new Titanium smartphones make daily life easy by providing everything you need wrapped up in a powerful, feature rich phone package with a price that is hard to beat.

“Thanks to our new partnership with MediaTek and their support, we are able to offer a range of unlocked phones at affordable prices without losing key features,” says Loic Poirier, CEO of ARCHOS.
