Aside from the launch of its new Windows 7, Atom-powered Archos 9 Tablet PC, the French PC vendor has also introduced a couple of other new ultraportable PCs, including a CULV-based laptop and a 10-inch PC designed for students and educational purposes. With the launch of the new portable computer systems, Archos is hoping to become one of the leading vendors for ultraportable PCs in Europe, taking advantage of the increasing popularity of netbooks, nettops and ultraportable, ultrathin laptops.

Kicking off with the company's jump on the CULV bandwagon, the new Archos 13 Ultra-Mobile PC comes to provide users with an alternative to all the other CULV-based systems on the market, including Acer's ultrathin Timeline series. The new machine is equipped with a convenient 13.3-inch backlit LED screen that can provide users with a resolution of 1280 by 800 pixels, while the 1.2GHz Celeron ULV processor is ready to deliver the necessary performance for running some of the basic applications. Packed inside an ultrathin design (only 1.08 inches thin), the Archos 13 will provide users with a choice for ultraportable computing.

On the other side, there's the new 10-inch addition to the company's line of netbook systems, the Archos 10s, which packs roughly the same features as its previously released sibling, the Archos 10, but in a sleeker, more lightweight form factor. The system is powered by the familiar Atom 1.6GHz processor, combined with 1GB of RAM, an 80GB hard drive and the Windows XP operating system that most netbook fans seem to enjoy. According to Archos, the netbook is just 0.866 inches thick and weighs in at just 2.2 pounds.

In addition to the two systems presented above, the company has also announced the introduction of a new Classmate-like laptop that has been developed in partnership with the France Ministry of Education, and which is expected to become available for students in France, with an included one-year subscription to an online course service, all for about US$400.
