Archos pre-installed the tablet with its own multimedia application

Archos announced some new tablets models at MWC 2014, including the world’s first 4G tablet to be priced under $249 / €182, the 80 Helium.

Nevertheless, the device maker is gearing up to lift the veil off a bunch of other models and one of them has leaked today. It’s the 70b Cobalt, another budget slate which doesn't bring anything too revolutionary (via ArcTablet).

Compared to its predecessor (70 Cobalt), the new slate boasts a slightly smaller bezel on the sides, while the front camera and physical buttons have been moved a little.

Anyway, let’s see what this new tablet will offer in terms of capabilities. The slate has a 7-inch display with nothing more than 1024 x 600 pixel resolution.

In the hardware department, there’s a lousy dual-core RK3026 Cortex A9 clocked at 1GHz working in concert with dual-core GPU Mali 400 MP2 and just 512Mb.

Apart from that, there’s micro USB 3.0, micro SD slot, USB Host via OTG and a really unimpressive 0.3MP that won’t get you far in terms of photography. Everything is powered by a semi-decent 3000 mAh battery, while the default operating system is Android 4.2.2.

I don’t really understand why Archos needs to put out so many similar tablets, that don’t offer much in terms of anything. Not so long ago Archos pushed out the Neon tablet line, which in my opinion is another failed attempt to draw some revenue in.

Expect this model to arrive with a price tag under €100 / $137, although I think that’s a lot even as it is.
