Archos launches an atypical child slate on the market

This week we have seen an impressive number of child-friendly slates make an appearance in the wild. French manufacturer Archos is one of the companies that has unveiled a new model too, in the form of the 101 ChildPad.

The new device features a soft body and comes with a handle to allow little users to carry it around, wherever they go.

The Archos 101 ChildPad comes with a 10.1-inch touch screen and a resolution of 1024 x 600 pixels. It draws power from a dual-core ARM Rockchip RK3168 SoC combined with 1GB of RAM and 8GB of internal storage (expandable via microSD).

Other specs include a frontal camera, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, micro USB 2.0, USB 2.0 OTG and HDMI out, so you have probably noticed it’s pretty capable for a child tablet.

Further proof comes from the fact that the slate runs Android 4.2 Jelly Bean (access to Google Play is provided) and is also equipped with a hefty 5000 mAh battery which will deliver an extensive battery life. Of course, parents can control the activities of their child and block inappropriate content.

Parents and children can enjoy watching cartoons streamed via the pre-installed Toon Goggles application. Users can either stream the content via a Wi-Fi connection or download them on the tablet and watch them later.

Last but not least, we should mention the tablet has an atypical feat. Users purchasing the tablet will notice the presence of Teddy. Teddy is actually an audio player with built-in speaker that’s shaped like a teddy bear (naturally).

The Teddy can be removed from the tablet platform and during the night can act as a light provider (most kids are afraid of the dark, aren’t they?).

Those interested in this pretty competent child slate would be glad to know the Archos 101 ChildPad is already available on sale for an affordable €150 / $203 a pop.
