Aptera has officially unveiled two brand new vehicles that could change the future of automotive design...again! Notably, Aptera's Typ-1 is a vehicle designed to combine the advanced aerodynamics with lightweight composite technology to create a safer and smarter car.

To whom it may concern, the Aptera Typ-1 will be available as all-electric or hybrid models for less than $30,000 starting 2008. The all-electric, powered by batteries, is capable of driving people over maximum distances of 120 miles (depending on the driving conditions) and all it takes is a simple recharge from a 110-volt outlet.

The second model is the "Plug-In Hybrid", powered by an electric drive train but also assisted by a fuel-efficient gasoline-powered generator, which "stretches the range considerably". This hybrid Aptera may achieve an incredible 300 miles per gallon. In addition, the makers claim that both Apteras are loaded with safety features. Using embedded solar cells under its roof operate for a precise climate control system, Aptera's interior never gets too hot or too cold.

It also features an USB hub where owners can power or charge their MP3 player, laptop and other mobile devices. Oh, yeah, there is also an advanced drive computer with GPS navigation, CD/MP3/DVD player, XM satellite radio and an automatic identification system, so a driver never has to pull out their keys to enter or start their Aptera. Eh...How cool is that?

"Unveiling the Aptera Typ-1 represents a pivotal point in automotive history as we mark the transition from research and development to manufacturing the most energy efficient vehicle with a price tag to fit almost any budget," said Co-Founder and CEO, Steve Fambro.

With features such as a front crumple zone, a front end that re-directs crash energy in a frontal impact, steel and composite side and rollover protection as well as driver and passenger side airbags, the Aptera team seems to have made safety a priority in the car's design. And, besides that, the car features three wheels, making it eligible for most carpool lanes, even with only one person in the vehicle.

It's good to know the car has "two plus one" seating, which means more room for driver and passengers. Storage room is also generous with enough space to fit "15 bags of groceries, two full-size golf club bags or even a couple of seven foot surf boards with the infant seat removed."

We are just a few, but there are many of you, Softpedia users, out there.
