The powers that be over at Grinding Gear Games are always looking for ways to improve the player experience in their free-to-play action role-playing game Path of Exile, and it appears they struck gold.

The company was previously completely opposed to the concept of Pay to Win, but today they have finally grown up and embraced the fact that they need to make lots of money, and they need to do it FAST!

Ethical microtransactions are for people who don't want to wear opulent bling or get tigers as pets. As such, over on the Path of Exile forums, a developer post tells that the company's quest for improved monetization so that players can see more content added faster to the game is over.

The post says that microtransaction design has been a hot topic at the Game Developers Conference, and Grinding Gear Games has gained valuable insight from many successful developers, deciding to heed the unanimous advice: allow players to Pay to Win.

Path of Exile traditionally follows the clearly inferior Play to Win paradigm, and the developers confessed that it took a while to come around to how games are designed under the clearly superior Pay to Win design mentality.

As such, the experts have agreed that when players win, they need fireworks, and they also need to announce their wins to everyone nearby, because being social is good for the game.

When it comes to prices, developers should "nickel and dime" the players, and Grinding Gear Games has opted to heed the advice and set a price of $0.15 / €0.15 per win, and also took it upon themselves to make wins be consumable and sold in stacks, so that players have to keep buying more and more.

For players who are skeptical about whether Pay to Win is the way to go, the developers have put together a nice video showing how players can enjoy their hard-earned wins.

The Win Fireworks can only be purchased today, April 1, on the Grinding Gear Games store, so stop letting that fat wallet weigh you down and start winning!

If you want to give Path of Exile a chance, you can start playing for free by registering on the game's official website.

Its main features are the biggest skill tree ever seen anywhere, which allows each class to get several viable builds, solid skill-based gameplay and classic hack-and-slash fun, along with a random dungeon map system that allows high level content to still feel fresh.
