A knife-esque version of the Galaxy S6 Edge smartphone

It's April 1 and all major companies feel the need to serve their fans more or less believable pranks. Samsung is no stranger for allowing its imagination to run wild on April Fools' day, so we can't say we're surprised the South Korean company has made a major announcement in this regard.

The new Samsung Galaxy BLADE edge is the company's “ultimate cooking companion.” The resemblance with Samsung's latest flagship smartphone, the Galaxy S6 Edge is unquestionable, but that's the point of the prank after all.

Well, it looks like the Galaxy BLADE edge is Samsung's first product in the Chef Collection series, which might get even more in the coming years (really?!).

Opposite to what you may think looking at the picture of the Galaxy BLADE edge, this is not a knife or a cleaver, but a fully working smartphone.

Samsung Galaxy BLADE edge comes loaded with all the powerful features of the Galaxy S6, but on top of that, its edge is so sharp and strong that the handset can also serve as a chef's knife.

So, this means that the Galaxy BLADE edge can be used to make and take calls, as well as a knife. The device is made of diamond-cut finish and it features a tough ceramic body. The diamond edge is tough enough to cut through “a lobster tail and sharp enough to slice through tender heirloom tomatoes.”

Water-proof, foldable handle, diamond edge blade and more

According to Samsung, the body is made of a “patented ceramic” that's supposed to be tougher than stainless steel and lighter than plastic.

The Galaxy BLADE edge comes with a set of sensors and algorithms that analyze user's grip, dexterity and strength, in order to achieve the weight in optimal proportion to create the perfect rhythm and inertia while chopping, cutting, slicing and dicing.

With Samsung's KNOX security solution you will never cut yourself, as long as you scan your fingerprint on the home button, so that the BLADE's special detection mechanism will be activated.

Some accessories such as custom handles, protective sleeves, covers and charging blocks will be available for purchase soon as well. More details on the Samsung Galaxy BLADE edge are available on the company's official blog.
