Appro, the American leading provider of high-performance enterprise computing systems, presents the all-new XtremeWorkstation rig designed for professionals who require speed, high performance and efficiency when working with complex and memory-intensive high-end applications.

The Appro XtremeWorkstation is specifically built to make the most out of two to four X86 AMD Opteron 8000 series CPUs coupled with 128GB (!!!) of DDR2 memory. This extremely powerful system is ideal for technical workloads in Mechanical Computer Aided Design (MCAD), Engineering (MCAE), petroleum visualization, automotive, aerospace, electronic design, digital content creation artists, 3D modeling and CAD. Interestingly enough, Appro still promotes the X86 architecture, although the Opteron 8000 series supports 64-bit instruction sets.

The XtremeWorkstation features two PCI-Express x16 slots that may be the host for professional graphics arrays made up of NVIDIA's Quadro FX4500 X2 or Quadro FX5500 cards. The enormous quantities of onboard RAM provide more than four times the graphics, processor and memory bandwidth, leading to 25 percent lower memory latencies and twice the computer power of prior models.

"The XtremeWorkstation is an example of new workstations that are designed to provide a higher level of capability that enables customers to perform application intensive projects, in less time for faster results" said Earl Joseph, IDC Program Vice President. "For the high performance computing market processor speed and memory capabilities are key customer purchase requirements."

"Appro continues to set the industry standard for high performance workstation computing systems for the demands of multi-core workstation computing," said John Lee, VP of Advanced Technology Group of Appro. "By combining four AMD Opteron 8000 Series processors today with a non-disruptive upgrade path to native quad-core processors planned for later this year, Appro delivers maximum flexibility and value to meet our customers' most demanding technical requirements for high-performance workstations."
