Nowadays, we witness a powerful, bold competition seeking to promote odd, unconventional types of alternative energy. Apparently, the next green trend is represented by fruit power.

Fruits are considered a valuable source of vitamins , but they can also be used to power appliances. After DDB, an advertising company, has demonstrated that fresh oranges can be exploited to lighten a billboard, the same method has been taken into consideration by photographer Caleb Charland.

He used apples hanging from a tree to make a LED lamp glow in the dark. The secret is, in this case, an electrochemical reaction using fruit acid as a natural catalyst, Inhabitat informs.

The tree had approximately 300 apples. Using wires, he managed to connect all the apples to the lamp and reached the conclusion that 10 fruits are enough to make each LED work properly.

His ingenious invention, revealing the creativity of systems running on renewable power, has attracted dozens of visitors from Newburgh, Maine.
