Apple will not hold an event this month, but it will refresh its notebook line, according to sources in the Czech Republic. They even have a precise date for the announcement, but it’s disappointingly not the 12-inch model, according to these people.

Letemsvetemapplem.eu has it on file from knowledgeable sources that Apple will issue a refresh of its MacBook range of laptops on the 24th of February, which falls on a Tuesday.

The announcement will be brief (likely via press release), the sources said, and the lineup will not include the rumored new 12-inch model expected to debut this year.

The sources clarify that there will not be a keynote presentation in February, as some have speculated. Finally, the upgrade will consist of “new processors that Intel introduced at the beginning of this year,” according to the leak.

Apple’s first announcement for 2015

If the info indeed pans out, this will be the first move made by Apple this year, ahead of the watch unveiling, and ahead of the rumored iPad Pro launch, which would certainly deserve a media event.

It goes without saying that many company watchers and customers alike are eagerly anticipating more interesting announcements, like the aforementioned redesigned 12-inch MacBook Air.

However, there’s no reason not to believe the claims made by the Czech sources, as Apple constantly refreshes its computers with the newest Intel processors once every two years, sometimes even annually - depending on the importance of the upgrade.

For example, this year’s upgrade makes perfect sense as the latest Broadwell-U chips announced by Intel are actually SoCs (system on a chip) that would blend very well with Apple’s design and performance needs. In fact, it might even lend credence to rumors that Apple will one day equip its Macs with its own SoCs - the A-series chips currently found in iPhones and iPads.
